Custom Camper Mary Jane Flats Part 1: Disinfecting and Refurbishing Leather Shoes

November 8, 2024

In an effort to revamp my wardrobe, I’ve been beautifying and altering items that I already have to cut down on consumption and give new meaning and life to the things I own. I am documenting my journey starting off with my beloved Camper Mary Jane Flats. These flats have gone absolutely everywhere with me, from strolling the colorful streets of Granada, Nicaragua with its beautiful architecture to making quick grocery runs to Aldi. These shoes have really been there for me and I would like to show them some appreciation by beautifying and customizing them.

This is Part one of a three-part series showing my progress with the final video showcasing an elaborate design that I have envisioned for my shoes. It is essential to deep clean and refurbish my shoes before doing any customization to provide a nice clean canvas to play with. The products I used are Angelus Leather Paint, Chemical Guys Ph Balanced Leather Cleaner, Dawn Dish Soap, Rubbing Alcohol, and Coconut oil to remove stubborn rubber stains. Stay tuned for the next two parts!
